American Academy of Pediatrics

headquarters

New headquarters for non-profit Research and Educational organization with sixty years history of advocacy for children’s and young adult health and wellness. This 200,000 SF (19,000SM) program located on a 20 Acre site in the Hamilton Lakes Corporate Campus in Itasca, Illinois. The approach creates a “pavilion” in the garden with highly flexible spaces, allowing the building program of collaborative research and education as well as political advocacy to evolve over time. The planning embraces the natural environment of the existing lake, creating a series of interior and exterior gardens connecting to the natural environment. The interior spaces allow for collaboration and flexibility through structural and MEP infrastructure. The building language creates a modernist rigor of the colored vertical glass fins complements the dynamic language of the building skin, creating natural impression of movement toward the center. This movement and transition represent the innovation and adaptation to new changes and demands of different generations that is central to the mission of the American Academy of Pediatrics.
