Chengdu FB Center, Tianfu Olympic Sports New City, Chengdu, Sichuan Province, China
The project objectives are to design an International Football Center of 500,000 SM to include a world-class professional football field of 60,000 seats to host top international football competitions as well as a growing domestic market. In addition, the new facility will promote professional training of youth football, sports exchanges with a general gymnasium of 18,000 seats commercial performances and large-scale variety shows. The center will be a top-level football competition center and professional Football Training, Cultural Exchange and Industry Development Center. The planning concept is closely related to the big pattern of Tianfu Olympic Sports City and the goal as Chengdu's new city signature. In order to integrate the park on the east side of the site into the project site, the planning focused on the development of a cultural and sports park as a “green heart” that integrates the site planning and the future communal development. The architecture integrates with the landscape both the immediate and the mountains that surround this growing metropolis. It's pedestrian scale and horizontality complement the growing skyline of Chengdu and serving as its new gateway. The Stadium and gymnasium together are connected formally and resemble the figure eight (8) the most fortuitous number in Chines culture.
