Chengdu Nature Museum
Chengdu, Sichuan Province, China
The design of the new 72,000 SM Chengdu Nature Museum Is a collaboration with Zaha Hadid Architects and is based in concepts of the transparency, openness and a formal language that challenges traditional relationships of roof, walls and ground plane combining these into an ecosystem of space and construction that gives presence to the immeasurable mysteries of nature and Its infinite diversity. The design further elaborates the concept of Sky, People and Earth, the essential Chinese philosophy about human beings in the universe. An artificial nature Is created inside the museum; a mountain inside a building a building inside a park. The ultimate importance Is to create a narrative about the meaning of life and the evolution of nature according to the curatorial proposition of the museum content. The project is defined by a large inhabitable roof which defines the major designated programs and internal circulation and the topographic land which contains the public, educational functions and utility support. Between these voids are articulated between the upper and lower mass. The void is continuous and absorbs the nature both In and opens out of the building, offering the city and the community a generous and inspirational urban lobby. The museum is a knowledge machine that houses the learning activities and celebrates the broad love of species, through the exhibition of this museum.
