Danfoss Drives, an engineering company headquartered in Denmark is a global leader in the research, design and manufacturing of variable speed control of electric motors with a focus on quality, reliability and innovation to create a more sustainable world through intelligent and energy efficient products. Their US facility located in Loves Park, Illinoi on an eighteen (18) Acre site connected to the major I-90 tollway represents their requirement for an expandable facility on an 18 Acre site with an initial program of 120,000 SM of office, research, testing and manufacturing that was collaborative, interconnected, employee centered, flexible and pragmatic to increase the efficiency of their product flow from design, testing manufacturing and shipping. The infrastructure design provided a universal utility load that was key to allowing the plant’s structural capacity/load to be flexible throughout the facility and allow for 100% expansion capability for Phase 2. The design focused for this employee centric company provided natural daylight and views throughout the facility as well as centering the design around an open space system that connected the employees to the natural systems surrounding the site to create a strong community focused on the quality of their products and collaboration necessary to achieve their mission. Phase 1 was completed in 2002 with Phase 2 completed in 2012.
