Corporate Headquarters Office and Testing Lab for the Duo-fast Corporation which makes tools for the automobile industry (now owned by Illinois Tool Works).  This 60,000 square foot facility was the first building in a newly planned Corporate Park in a former agrarian site outside of Chicago on a 11 Acre site. The building comprises three distinct components:  testing lab, office block and lodge, which include the entry lobby, employee break rooms, cafeteria, and the executive conference center.  The three components define a courtyard, which becomes the focal point of the complex.  The inspiration came from monastic organizations which in numerous locations were built in the countryside and not in the city and whose planning created a sense of place to define settlement in a larger infinite space. The facility is built with traditional materials of brick, stone and wood.
