Situation: Chicago, Illinois. USA
Year: 2012
The Wabash Building for Roosevelt University completed in 2012 and located adjacent and interconnected to their flagship building, the Landmark Auditorium Building on an adjacent small and difficult 17,500 SF site on Wabash Street. This thirty-two (32) story (465’) “Vertical University,” a hybrid mixed use program of 420,000 SF program includes Academic for General Education, the College of Sciences with significant Laboratory space and the College of Business, Student Services, University Administration, Student Union facilities and Student residential to complement and enhance their existing facility. The goal was to create “campus” through interconnections to the existing Auditorium Building, providing flexible and adaptable planning to enhance evolving pedagogies and interdisciplinary engagement. It provides critical infrastructure serving both the University, the Auditorium Theater and preserves the façade of the historic Fine Arts Annex existing on this site. It expands the Universities commitment to Social Justice and Civic engagement continuing their support of the community and stewardship of this cultural landmark.
