The Dalian Central Cultural District (CCD)
Dalian, China
The Dalian Central Cultural District (CCD) creates a destination that serves local, national and international communities creating a place centered on the cinema and performing arts including theater, symphony and opera venues. The CCD celebrates this through the development of connected public spaces of plazas and pedestrian streets that focus not on individual buildings but a collective urban environment, comfortable for all ages, with a focus on family activities. These spaces connect the multiple parcels and create opportunities for public events and are landscaped and designed to promote the day to day activities of a pedestrian oriented community, serving both the existing residents and a new community. Support office, retail and educational facilities are included to create a sustainable community.
The project seeks to create a place in Dalian that serves the community through providing places for tourists, families with activities that promote culture, public events while creating and connecting communities which creates a better life for the cities which they serve.
A Five Star Hotel and Conference Center serves as the gateway to the district connecting directly to the cultural venues. The development also includes a multipurpose sports, music and events center. Residential is provided for 10,000 residents and is a combination of new market offerings and replacement units for existing residents will be provided. This waterfront metropolitan development focuses on the collaboration of intense density with enhanced social and cultural activity demonstrating that they are compatible and not mutually exclusive
