World Trade Center

Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam

The masterplan for the new World Trade Center in Ho Chi Minh City is located in the new Thu Thiem District, located on a 647-hectare peninsula across the Saigon River from the historic center of Ho Chi Minh City and is being financed by the Investment and Construction Authority of Thu Thiem. The master plan focuses on development of Thu Thiem as a sustainable, dynamic, mixed-use central business district. The plan is based on a framework of transportation, land use, and public spaces that integrates the existing ecological conditions of the lower Saigon River and responds to the climate of southern Vietnam to strengthen the city’s extraordinary bond with the river.

The masterplan is located on a 7-hectare parcel that is located between two greenways with direct river frontage at the southern end of the district with a program that will include institutional facilities with this larger open space park and conservation area. The program will support and promote the global economy of Vietnam and become a model of large- scale sustainable development for this growing Asian economy.

The planning focuses on the quality and connection of the outdoor and indoor spaces at different scales to distinguish the public realm from the private realm. The development will give identity to Ho Chi Minh City from both the programmatic approach and the planning approach following the tradition of similar urban developments such Rockefeller Center in New York, the Sony Center in Berlin, Xin Tan Di in Shanghai, and the World Trade
